Keep your work space neat and tidy with this easy to make patchwork storage basket. It’s a small fabric basket accented with fun, colorful scraps. Not only is the basket great for storage needs but it does a great job in catching any loose thread while you’re busy sewing. It really is so versatile! You can use this patchwork storage basket to store supplies, materials instead. Super fun and easy to make!
This basket is all about turning the ordinary into something extraordinary with your scraps! Those little pieces of fabric leftovers can be stitched together to create a colorful strip of fun. You can even make the basket with leftover pieces from charm packs.
PATCHWORK STORAGE BASKET DETAILS:
Finished Size: 5 1/2″ tall x 5 1/2″ wide
Once you have the technique down, you will want to make these baskets in all different sizes. We suggest using a stabilizing form instead of batting. We like the additional support it provides along the sides.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE THIS PROJECT:
- background fabric
- assorted fabric scraps
- fusible foam
- thread to match
- flat head pins
- binding clip
The binding detail along the top edge is just another way for you to add a splash of color to your project. We love the look of a continuous binding but understand that it can be tricky to get the measurement exactly right. That’s why we love this video from Heirloom Creations. In it, Sarah shows you just how easy it is to make the final connection on any quilt binding. This technique can be used on so many projects, from mega quilts to patchwork storage baskets. Let’s take a look and learn how she does it.
Just think about how fun a collection of patchwork baskets would look in your sewing space! You could customize them to fit any space in your home.
