Bearly Quilt Pattern

Bear Paw quilts have been around since the 1850s. This version of a Bear Paw block pulls the traditional center square out and adds interest in the compass points at the outside edges.

It is one of those versatile patterns that is perfect for scraps. Each block can be made with a variety of prints and colors or you can switch up the pallet in one block to create a focal feature.

Keep your pattern close at hand during the piecing process, and double-check that every one of your half square triangles are pointed the right way. Those half-square triangles have a tendency to get flipped somewhere along the way.
